DuraFace® NP (No Point) Fixation Half-pins - Standard Threads
Pre-drilling is required for pin placement when using NP (No-Point) external fixation half-pins. As with application of any ESF pin, attention should be given to proper pin alignment with the pre-drilled hole.
Customer feedback indicated the original rounded, self-tapping point of INTERFACE® NP half-pins could be difficult to start and place accurately – especially in the hands of inexperienced surgeons. IMEX™ recently completed a trial comparing 10 different test versions of no-point pins. Variables evaluated included length of NP, cutting flute number, cutting flute rake angle, and relief at the cutting flutes. Surgeon friendliness was the main criteria in evaluating a new no-point style.
Completion of the cadaver bone study revealed a blunted-trocar point more readily engaged and aligned better than any of the “fancier” points tested – including the original NP geometry. In comparison to most points tested, the blunted trocar resulted in less pin in soft tissues opposite the bone.
