These pins have proven particularly effective in soft metaphyseal bone application where adequate bone stock is present to support the increased thread diameters. Acceptable locations include the proximal tibia, the distal femur, and the proximal humerus only. Pre-drilling is very important.
These pins are contraindicated in diaphyseal bone, in the radius or ulna, and in the hard bone of the humeral condyle.
Rarely is more than one cancellous pin placed into a single ESF construct.
