TRO™ Large Animal Transfixation Pins
TRO™ Large Animal Transfixation Pins offer you the benefits of:
• Increased fatigue life
• Increased bending strength
• Increased ultimate strength
These improvements enhance performance without an increase in corresponding hole diameter created in the patient’s bone (data submitted for publication).
Improved mechanics are achieved with patent pending TRO™ (tapered run out) technology applied to our standard 6.3mm shaft, centrally-threaded fixation pin. Unlike traditional positive-profile pins, this pin features a shaft with two diameters: the leading diameter being the same 6.3mm (1/4”) as you are accustomed to while the drive-end shaft of the pin has been increased to 8mm (5/16”). The acute nature of the stress riser on the large end of the shaft has been reduced using the TRO™ feature.
When applying the pin consider the larger end with the TRO™ feature for application to the most stressed side of the repair, often considered to be the medial side of the equine cannon bone.
The required drill bits and taps are unchanged. Since TRO™ pins exhibit increased mechanical performance without an increased risk of iatrogenic fracture, this pin should be considered as a replacement for part number 21140 (6.3mm shaft large animal, centrally threaded fixation pin).
